Pondicherry

Arriving late morning we set out on foot to explore this French influenced town. As we consult out map we find that Pondicherry is split from east to west by a partially covered sewer... ah! I mean, canal. The more ‘French’ part of town is on the east side towards the sea side. Ar! Yes the sea side is not much to rave about in that it’s not a beach destination; there is a thin strip of sand that leads into a dirty brown blah that slurps into a seawall of jagged rocks. Not nice I know but we did not come to Pondy to swim we came to check out the boardwalk along the sea front, the colonial buildings and experience the mix of French and Indian culture that this town offers.

Unfortunately we only have one night here so it needed to be a quick trip in the morning we head for Mahabalipuram.
